Switching from Snowball Analytics to StockWatcher: What Moves Over

How to move your dividend and trade history from Snowball Analytics to HCC StockWatcher: which broker report you probably started from, which of our parsers reads it, and what stays manual.

Snowball Analytics gets your holdings in one of two ways: linking your brokerage, or importing a broker-specific report you download yourself — Snowball's own help center publishes guides for getting that report from more than a dozen brokers. Either way, Snowball doesn't hold your investments; the trade history originates at whichever brokerage you connected or exported from in the first place. (For a feature-by-feature look instead, see our Snowball Analytics alternative page.)

Check which broker's report you originally used

Snowball's help center publishes broker-specific guides that walk through downloading a report directly from the brokerage's own site — including Fidelity, National Bank Direct Brokerage, Interactive Brokers, Charles Schwab, and Robinhood — five brokers that overlap with HCC StockWatcher's own 12 supported parsers (Fidelity, NBDB, Interactive Brokers, Schwab, and Robinhood). If that's the broker you originally exported from to feed Snowball, go back to that same brokerage export — the one our parser already reads — instead of Snowball's own report format.

Snowball's own export

Snowball also lets you export transactions already inside the app: open an account under My Accounts, select Transactions, adjust the date filter to cover your full history, and click Export. This produces Snowball's own CSV layout, which isn't one of the 12 formats our parsers auto-detect, so use it as a reference for manual entry rather than a direct import file.

What needs manual entry

If your original broker isn't one of the five listed above, or all you have is Snowball's own export, add those transactions by hand with StockWatcher's Add Transaction form, using the Snowball export as your reference for dates, quantities, and prices.

What won't transfer at all

Snowball's dividend-specific features — its dividend calendar, forward dividend forecasting, and proprietary dividend-safety rating — are Snowball's own computed products. StockWatcher tracks dividend income and DRIP reinvestment history, but it does not generate a comparable safety rating or forward forecast.

Supported broker imports and export steps may have changed since publication — verify current details on Snowball Analytics' own site before you begin. HCC StockWatcher is the publisher of this article and has an obvious interest in you switching.
