Switching from Wealthsimple's Built-In Tracking to StockWatcher: What Moves Over

Wealthsimple is one of our 12 supported brokerages, which makes this the most direct migration in this series — how to export your activity and what our parser does and doesn't pick up.

Unlike the other trackers in this series, Wealthsimple is the brokerage itself — the shares you see in its built-in tracking view are held in your actual Wealthsimple account, not linked or aggregated from somewhere else. That makes this the most direct migration in the series: Wealthsimple is one of the 12 brokerages HCC StockWatcher already has a dedicated CSV parser for. (For a feature-by-feature look instead, see our Wealthsimple alternative page.)

Exporting your Wealthsimple activity

Open the Wealthsimple app or my.wealthsimple.com, go to Account > Activity or Statements, and download your activity history as CSV for the date range you want. This is the same account activity export covered in our Wealthsimple import guide — there is no separate "tracking" export, since the tracking view and the underlying brokerage account are the same data.

What imports automatically

Our Wealthsimple parser auto-detects this CSV on upload and handles buy, sell, and dividend transactions, including fractional shares and both CAD and USD activity. Go to Transactions > Import in StockWatcher, select the file, and the import preview shows every transaction it found before anything is saved.

What needs manual entry

Wealthsimple account activity beyond ordinary buy/sell/dividend transactions — margin activity, staked crypto, or gold holdings, for example — may not appear in the standard activity export in a form our parser recognizes. Check your downloaded file against the import preview and add anything missing by hand.

What won't transfer at all

Wealthsimple Tax — the CRA and Revenu Québec tax-slip import used to file a Canadian return — is a separate Wealthsimple product tied to your account there. StockWatcher produces estimated ACB and capital-gains reference data from your transaction history, but it does not file a return or import official tax slips.
