RBC Direct Investing lets you download your account activity as a CSV file, which you can then import into HCC StockWatcher to consolidate your holdings and estimate cost basis and returns. This guide walks through the export and import, and what to check afterward.
Exporting Your RBC Direct Investing Activity
Sign in to RBC Direct Investing and open the account you want to export. Look for the Activity or Transaction History section.
Set the date range you want (many investors export their full history, or year-by-year for tax season) and choose the download/export option. Select CSV or spreadsheet format and save the file.
Importing Into HCC StockWatcher
In HCC StockWatcher, open the Transactions page and select Import. Choose your downloaded RBC Direct Investing CSV; the built-in parser recognizes the format and maps each row to a buy, sell, dividend, or other transaction type.
Review the import preview before confirming. Check that symbols, dates, quantities, and prices look right, and de-select any rows you do not want. After you confirm, your holdings, estimated cost basis, and estimated profit and loss update from the imported ledger.
What to Check After Importing
- Currency: RBC Direct Investing accounts can hold both CAD and USD positions — confirm each holding shows the currency you expect.
- Corporate actions: stock splits, mergers, and returns of capital may need a manual adjustment for an accurate adjusted cost base (ACB).
- Dividends and DRIP: verify reinvested dividends imported as both an income event and the associated share purchase.
