Parser Details

The Robinhood parser takes the ticker from the Instrument column and the transaction type from Trans Code, reading buys, sells, dividends, ACH deposits, and withdrawals. Every row is recorded in US dollars.

What transfers from your Robinhood CSV

Exactly what the Robinhood parser reads out of the file, and what you will still need to enter yourself afterwards.

Read from the file

  • Buy and sell rows: Activity Date, the ticker from the Instrument column, Quantity, and Price.
  • Dividend rows from the DIV and CDIV transaction codes.
  • ACH deposits and withdrawals from the Trans Code column.
  • Description is kept as the transaction note.

Entered by hand afterwards

  • Commissions and regulatory fees. Every row imports with a zero fee because the statement carries no commission column.
  • Currency. Every Robinhood row is recorded in US dollars on the US market.
  • Crypto rows are read with the same columns as equities, so the imported symbol may need correcting before a price will resolve.
  • Option contracts. Strike price, expiry, and call or put are not columns the parser reads.
  • Cost basis for positions transferred in from another institution, and corporate actions such as splits and mergers.

Estimated capital gains, adjusted cost base, and the year-end United States and Canadian reference reports are all derived from these transactions, so anything missing here is missing from those figures too. See how estimated tax reporting works
