Parser Details
The Wealthsimple parser reads buy, sell, dividend, deposit, and withdrawal rows from the Type column, including fractional share quantities. Currency comes from the Currency column.
Supported CSV Fields
What transfers from your Wealthsimple CSV
Exactly what the Wealthsimple parser reads out of the file, and what you will still need to enter yourself afterwards.
Read from the file
- Buy and sell rows: date, symbol, quantity — fractional shares included — and unit price.
- Dividend, deposit, and withdrawal rows recognised from the Type column.
- The Currency column — CAD rows are recorded on the Canadian market and USD rows on the US market. An exchange suffix on the ticker, such as ENB.TO, is more specific and sets the market instead.
Entered by hand afterwards
- Commissions. Every Wealthsimple row imports with a zero fee because the export has no commission column; add any Premium or currency-conversion cost yourself.
- Cost basis for positions transferred in from another institution: a transfer row carries no purchase price.
- Option contracts. Strike price, expiry, and call or put are not read from the CSV.
- Corporate actions such as splits, mergers, and spinoffs are not recognised in the Type column and are skipped.
- The Account column is used only to recognise the file format. If you export several accounts together, choose the destination portfolio yourself at import time.
Estimated capital gains, adjusted cost base, and the year-end United States and Canadian reference reports are all derived from these transactions, so anything missing here is missing from those figures too. See how estimated tax reporting works
